define Values
Deep beliefs, core principles, relatively enduing
They shape our character, guide behavior and decision-making, basis to evaluate others

Visible, tangible
I.e. kind acts, personal style
Base: Personal values & attitudes
Less visible, but not hard to discuss
I.e. you value fairness & are optimistic
Core: cultural values, world view, assumptions about human nature & reality
Even less visible
I.e. you believe in life after death
Ethnocentrism
Belief that our own ethnic group or culture is superior
We judge others through lens of our own culture (difficult to put aside)
