2nd Year - Carbon Cycle Flashcards
Why is carbon dioxide removed from the environment by green plants?
For photosynthesis
What is carbon from carbon dioxide used to make for the body of plants?
Carbohydrates, fats and proteins
What happens to some of the carbon dioxide when green plants respire?
Some of the carbon dioxide is returned to the atmosphere
What happens to carbon when green plants are eaten by animals and these animals are eaten by other animals?
Some of the carbon becomes part of the fats and proteins which make up their bodies
What happens to carbon when animals respire?
When animals respire, some of the carbon that makes up their bodies becomes carbon dioxide and is released
What happens to plants and animals bodies when they die?
Some animals and microorganisms feed on their bodies. Carbon is released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide when these organisms respire.
What is released when fossil fuels are burnt?
Carbon dioxide
