They were radio addresses that told people what the President’s plans were for recovery
What were the First Hundred Days?
They were often referred to as the First New Deal. It was a time to recover from war and build the economy up
What was the FDIC
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, this program was to gain support and trust from the public in banks. It guaranteed up to $5,00 in deposits. It is still a running agency today
What was the SEC?
The Security Exchange Commission made it a requirement that companies publish their statistics. It also regulated the activities of stockbrokers.
What was the NIRA?
The National Industrial Recovery Act increased production in factories and other businesses while increasing employee wages.
What was the PWA?
The Public Works Administration was created to oversee the new construction happening in America and to create jobs. It ended up failing and not having much impact of the economy.
What was the AAA?
The Agricultural Adjustment Administration was meant to lower the production and price of crops.
What was the TVA?
The Tennessee Valley Authority built dams, bridges, and roads. They also helped keep the national forests alive and well. This program helped create jobs.
What was the CCC?
The Civilian Conservation Corps was created to provide work for the unemployed. They did this by giving young men jobs to plant trees and work on other conservation projects.
What was the REA?
The Rural Electrification Administration helped give electricity to farmland. Before this program was created, less than 20% of farms had electricity and afterwards almost 90% did.
What was the NLRA?
The National Labor Relations Act, also known as the Wagner Act, named after the senator that sponsored it, protected unions and the right to form unions. This later created the National Labor Relations Board. It did get overturned because it gave too much power to the President.
What was the SSA?
The Social Security Act was created to help those who needed help. For instance, it gave money and other forms of support to the unemployed, elderly, mothers, children, and the blind.
How did Stalin’s 5-Year Plan lead to millions of deaths?
This 5-year plan took private farming land and forced the farmers to move to collective, public forms. If you resisted, you would be killed. Because of this change, there was less food being farmed and grown. This led to a famine, which it why so many people died.
What was Stalin’s Great Purge?
In 1936 the Soviet secret police arrested and executed many public officials. This was to see who was loyal to Stalin.
What was the purpose of the Neutrality Acts?
They were created to keep America out of war.
What nation did Germany attack, officially beginning World War II.
Germany invaded Poland.
What Japanese action brought America into the war?
The attack on Peal Harbor brought America into the war.
What is a war bond?
Americans could give a loan to the government during the war. After the war, the government would pay these loans back, but this was a good way to get money fast.
What Supreme Court case affirmed the government policy of interning Japanese Americans?
Korematsu vs. United States was the case that decided that the American government had the right to keep Japanese Americans in interment camps.
Who was the African American labor leader who met with Roosevelt?
A. Philip Randolph met with Roosevelt to confront him about the little that the government has helped to fight discrimination.
What happened to the SS. St. Louis?
It was carrying Jews and tried to get into many countries. With the low amount of food and water, the ship went back to Europe. Many passengers got off in France, but many of the passengers were killed in concentration camps soon later.

They were Mexican laborers brought to America.
Where did American troops first fight against the Germans?
They first fought in North Africa.
Which giant battle in the Soviet Union stopped Nazi advances into Russia?
The Battle of Stalingrad stopped the Nazi advance into Russia.

It took place in France in order to regain control.
