This is the basic unit of heredity. They are located in the chromosomes and carry the codes for individual traits and some diseases
Genes
These are inherited not only from parents but also from ancestors. Examples are curly hair, dark eyes, flat nose or giantism
Dominant Traits
These are traits inherited from fathers. Some characteristics and diseases more likely to appear in either boys or girls like color blindness
Recessive Traits
These are traits that are carried in the germ plasm of one sex but appear in the child of the opposite sex
Sex-Linked Traits
The sum total of a person’s surroundings. It is what influences an individual from childhood to adulthood
Environment
This gland produces growth hormones which are responsible for the growth and development of an individual. It also regulates fertility
The Pituitary Gland
It is a hormone that helps the body in using the energy from the food that one eats
Thyroxine
It controls the response to stress and the amount of salt and water in the body
The Adrenal Gland
A long gland located behind the stomach that produces the hormone called insulin
The Pancreas
These glands regulate the amount of calcium and phosphorous in the body
The Parathyroid Glands
It is the passing of traits from parents to their children

It controls the amount of sugar in the blood.
