2B Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics Flashcards
Thermal Equilibrium
two systems in contact are in thermal equilibrium, when there is no net flow of thermal energy between them.
- when they both reach the same temperature
explain thermal equilibrium
when two systems at different temperatures come into contact, thermal energy flows from the hotter to the cooler system. this continues until thermal equilibrium is achieved. heat transfer is governed by the difference in temperature
Zeroth law of thermodynamics
if system a is in thermal equilibrium with system b, and System B is in Thermal equilibrium with System C, then A is in thermal equilibrium with C
how to solve problems involving specific heat capacity and specific latent heat and thermal equilibrium
Q=mcat + Q=mL +energy lost by the hotter system=energy gained by the cooler system at thermal equilibrium
