How do cells come together to make a whole living organism?
Cells are the building blocks of life, some examples include root hair cells and nerve cells.
Cells of similar structure and function can group together to form tissues.
A group of tissues that work together to carry out a particular function is called an organ.
An organ system is a collection of organs that work together to carry out a particular function. The different organs within a system are linked together by vessels or tubes
What is the digestive system?
Includes the oesophagus, stomach and intestines. allows breakdown of food
What is the respiratory system?
Includes the lungs, which exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide
What is the circulatory system
Includes the heart and blood vessels, which transport materials around the body
What is the excretory system?
Includes the kidneys, which filter toxic waste materials from the blood
What is the nervous system?
Consists of the brain, spinal cord and nerves, which coordinate the body’s actions
What is the endocrine system?
Includes glands which secrete hormones, which act as chemical messengers
What is the reproductive system?
Produces sperm in moles and eggs in females, and allows for the development of the embryo
