Q

Properties

A
  • silvery coloured metals
  • highly reactive
  • low melting and boiling points
  • soft, easily cut with a knife to expose a shiny surface that dulls on oxidation

Q

Observations of metals with air

A

Lithium: dulls with oxidation

Sodium: dulls with oxidation faster than lithium

Q

Observations of metals with water

A

Lithium: floats, fizzes, moves around

Sodium: more fizzing, might light up with yellow flame, floats, moves around faster, forms a ball

Potassium: sets fire with lilac flame, floats, moves quickly, lots of fizzing, dissolves quickly
