As a regulatory authority Police is responsible to tailor interventions in line with:
Arms Act 1983
1) level of risk (likelihood vs harm)
2) actual or potential exposure
3) behaviour, attitude and capability of licence holders
Two aspects of risk

1) magnitude of the consequences
2) likelihood of event occurring
Police aim to:

2) assist those trying to comply
3) encourage compliance through intervention for those reluctant
4) use full force regulatory process for those refusing or wilfully negligent

1) take control of scene
2) first aid
3) manage scene
4) inform District Commander (drug and alcohol testing)
Other firearms discharge non-injury
1) mark scene positions
2) preserve cartridge cases/bullets
3) secure firearm and remaining rounds
4) preserve and photograph scene
5) advise employees immediate supervisor
6) commence review/investigation
7) conduct debrief
SGT role TASER discharge
1) attend scene (if required)
2) aftercare
3) scene preserved including evidence
4) Subject exposed examined by Dr. or ILS qualified ambo
- exam recorded on POL 42
5) operator completes register/TOR/footage
8) review footage and TOR
Unintentional discharge TASER
1) preserve and photograph scene
2) withdraw TASER from service and consult with Armoury
3) preserve/collect evidence
4) instigate a review
5) operator submits TOR/uploads footage/complete register
6) notify Police Professional Conduct Manager
