What are a fitness professional’s 2 duties for first aid?
- Know how to contact the qualified first aider on site
- Receive training on what to do in case of an emergency
If there is a casualty, what must you NOT do?
Try to immediately get them on their feet
What 3 things must you do if there is a casualty?
- Stay calm and assess the situation
- Get medical help (999 and/or the on site first aider)
- Keep them warm, comfortable and lying down until help arrives
What are the 4 steps of first aid?
- Talk to them to check they are conscious
- Check their airway is clear
- Apply chest compressions if they are not breathing
- Control any bleeding
What are 4 things you should find out if a client becomes ill?
- What the symptoms are
- What they think is wrong
- Whether medical assistance is needed
- Whether specific medication is needed and if so, how to obtain it
What are 3 main symptoms of COVID-19?
- High temperature
- New continuous cough
- Loss of or change in smell or taste
What should you do if you notice signs of COVID-19 in a member?
Inform a senior member of staff

Use the PRICE technique
What is the PRICE technique?
Protection - protect the affected area from further injury, e.g., by using a support
Rest - rest, steady and support the injured limb
Ice - apply an ice pack/cold compress to the affected area for at least 20 minutes
Comfortable support - make sure they are in a comfortable position
Elevation - elevate and support the limb
What should you do if an injury is serious?
Call in ambulance
