Home Router Settings - Change default passwords
Routers come with default usernames and passwords, need to change to protect your network
Home Router Settings - IP filtering
Can block any IP addresses not on the accepted list

Constantly update to fix bugs, patches, and features

Control traffic to specific URLs
Home Router Settings - Physical placement/secure locations
All in one devices (router, switch, firewall, etc), should be located in a secure area

Make sure certain devices obtain the same IP address every time
Home Router Settings - Static wide-area network (WAN) IP
External IP address assigned by internet provider, receive the same IP address ever time it boots up

Router automatically configure itself to find other devices on the network

Added layer of security, separated form internal network to limit itself
Wireless Specific - Changing the service set identifier (SSID)
Wireless name and availability
Wireless Specific - Disabling SSID broadcast
Can disable SSID but can still be easily found and hacked
Wireless Specific - Encryption settings
Require a password to access the network
Wireless Specific - Disabling guest access
Limit access to outsiders
Firewall Settings - Disabling unused ports
Should be disabled to ensure they cant be used by an outsider
Firewall Settings - Port forwarding/mapping
Takes inbound traffic to a specific port
