What Act gives council to pass the Carbon Monoxide by-law?
- Section 102 of the Municipal Act
What is the definition of Carbon Monoxide Alarm? (2)
- means a combined carbon monoxide detector and audible alarm device that:
1. designed to sound an audible alarm upon detection of excessive concentrations of CO, and
2, conforms to ULC2034 or ULC CAN/CGA- 6.19-M93, and, where electrically powered, is approved by CSA
Dwelling definition
- building occupied or capable of being occupied as a home or sleeping place by one or more persons
Dwelling Unit
- means a suite operated as a housekeeping unit, used or intended to be used as a domicile by one or more persons and usually containing cooking, eating, living, sleeping and sanitary facilities.
Fire Prevention Officer
- a member of the FIre Prevention Division of City of Brampton, BFES
Fuel Burning Appliances (17)
- means appliances such as furnaces, refrigerators, clother dryers, water heaters, boilers, fireplaces, wood stoves, charcoal grills, gas ranges and space heaters which are fired by flammable fuels:
- natural gas, propane, heating oil, kerosene, gasoline, wood, charcoal
Lodging, Rooming, Boarding House
- a dwelling in which rooms or room and board are supplied for hire or gain, for more than 2 persons, but shall not include:
- hotel, motel, group home or other similar establishment
Occupant
- any person/ persons over 18years, or any firm or corporation, in possession of any dwelling unit
Owner
- means any person, firm, or corporation having control over any portion of the building or property under consideration and includes the persons in the building or property
Suite
- single room or series of rooms of complementary use, operated under a single tenancy.
What types of units are included in Suites? (3)
- dwelling units, boarding houses dormitories, and rooming houses
What is ocnsidered to be one dwelling unit or suite? (3)
- a Rooming, Boarding or Lodge=ing House
What must every owner of a dwelling unit operate and maintain so as not to create a hazardous condition?
- heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, including appliances, chimneys, and flue pipes.
What must every owner of a dwelling unit do with CO alarms as set out in this by-law?
- repair and maintain the dwelling unit to conform with the standards for CO alarms as set out in this by-law.
Where must every owner ensure a minimum of 1 CO alarm be located? (3)
- in each dwelling unit containing a fuel burning appliance
- in each dwelling unit located on the same floor level as a fuel burning appliance, in multiple occupancy buildings
- in each dwelling unit located on the 1st and 2nd floor levels of the building above a floor level containing a fuel burning appliance, in multiple occupancy buildings
