2.7 Explain the importance of physical security controls. Flashcards
Pulverizing
Pulverizing is a method that can be used to grind or shred hard disks. Note that this type of shredding is much more powerful and uses different equipment than found with basic document shredding.
Pulping
Pulping takes shredding one step further. Once data are subjected to shredding, the remains can be mixed with water for further destruction. Note that in this case, data is mentioned and not a storage disk which would likely use another method.
Degaussing
Degaussing is the process of using electromagnetic forces to erase magnetic-based storage media. This method can be used to destroy or to erase for reuse.
CCTVq
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) or video monitoring, involves the use of cameras to relay a signal to a single location on a small range of monitors. Monitoring a large outdoor space requires many cameras and is not cost efficient.
DMZ
The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is between the two firewalls providing a layer of protection for the internet facing servers. It is an area of a network that is designed for public and company use. The DMZ is a buffer network between the public untrusted Internet and the private trusted LAN.
Ad Hoc zone
An Ad Hoc zone is created when two or more wireless devices connect to one another creating an on-demand network.
Guest network
A guest network is a wireless network used to provide non-employees or guests with internet access. This access is limited to certain functions, such as internet surfing and email.
