diagnosis of DM - blood test:
increased: WBC, PCV, ALKP, BUN/CREAT, amylase/lipase, cotisol, GH
diagnosis of dm - test:
Fructosamine test
Glycolated HB
Glucose tolerant test
(US)
Treatment of DM in dog :
Insulin therapy, caninsulin, ovarectomy, diet
Treatment of ketoacidosis
Honey with spoon, if not effective:
- Ringer + HCl, insulin and then caninsulin, K+ replacement , if low pH we can use bicarbonate
Symptoms in cats:
it is rare!
Cataract, weight loss, hepatic lipidosis, plantiograde posture of hindlimbs, PU,PD
Diff: hyperthyr, stress glucose
Treatment of DM in cat:
Glipizide, it increaes the insulin secretion
