What is Hajj?
A
A sacred journey that every Muslim should try to complete at least once in their lifetime.

What are the origins of Hajj?
A
Hajj dates back to when Isma’il and his mother, Hagar, were stranded in the desert and she ran between the hills to look for water until the angel Jibril created a fresh spring. Muslims believe that Isma’il (Prophet Ibrahim’s son) built the Ka’bah.

Why is Hajj important?
A
- It is one of the Five Pillars and therefore it is obligatory
- Shows equality between all Muslims and unites the ummah
- Helps Muslims to renew their sense of purpose
- Demonstrates submission to Allah
- Helps Muslims feel closer to Allah
- Allows Muslims to trace the roots of their religion
