What is legislation?
A set of laws suggested by government and made official by parliament.
What are the 5 categories of legislation?
1.) Consumer protection
2.) Employee protection
3.) Environmental protection
4.) Competition policy
5.) Health and safety
What is an example of consumer protection?
Consumers Rights Act 2015: -Customers have legal rights if the item you bought is broken, damaged, unusable or not what was advertised.
How does consumer protection effect a business?
A business must not give false or misleading information about a product.
What is an example of employee protection?
These acts makes sure the UK worker gets paid when they are sick, gets paternity and maternity pay, is not discriminated against, gets a fair wage and is treated equally, e.g. Minimum Wage Act.
What is an example of environmental protection?
The Environmental Protection Act of 1990 attempts to control pollution in terms of business waste that is disposed of in the air, on land and in the sea.
What is competition policy?
Legislation is placed by the government, designed to prevent collision.
What is the Health and Safety at Work Act?
All workers have a right to work in places where risks to their health and safety are properly controlled.
What is the impact of legislation on business cost?
A business will have to meet all the consumer, employer and recruitment laws, meaning costs such as: TRAINING STAFF, PROTECTION EQUIPMENT AND PAYING FOR NMW.
What is the Impact of legislation on business training needs?
Businesses will need to make sure that all their employees are trained and make sure that the business is legally compliant.
What is the impact of legislation on business recruitment?
-Race, sex, age or disability discrimination is illegal in UK business, so businesses must be careful to recruit within the equality law.
-Must offer equal pay + promo opps for women + ethnic minorities.
