25.1 protobionts Flashcards
1
Q
what are protobionts
A
collections of abiotically produced molecules surrounded by a membrane like structure
2
Q
what properties of life do protobionts have
A
- simple reproduction
- simple metabolism
- maintaining internal chemical environment different than that of their surroundings
3
Q
how do protobionts form
A
spontaneously
4
Q
liposomes form how
A
like if lipids go in water, they form a membrane like thing from hydrophobic
- they do osmotic swelling and
- simple factions (with enzymes)
5
Q
ribozymes
A
RNA that can catalyze some functions like enzymes
6
Q
how does RNA reproduce and go through natural selection
A
- specific base sequences in different environments replicate faster and with fewer errors leaving more descendent molecules
- copying errors could lead to more stable RNA that is better at replication than its parent
7
Q
RNA-> DNA
A
Rna gets into protobionts
- then it becomes the template for DNA
- DNA is more stable and better at replicating
- after DNA appears, RNA starts to become like tRNA and mRNA
