What is included in the Employment law (2)

Consequences of businesses not following legislation (4)
- May have to pay for staff training
- Pay the cost of having a bad reputation
- May have to go to a tribunal
- Business may have to pay compensation to the employee
What is the health and safety law
Is the law that allows employees to be protected whilst they work
Healthy and safety at work (1974) (6)
- Installation and maintenance of safety equipment and clothing
- Maintenance of workplace temperatures
- Sufficient breaks must be given to employees
- Providing protection against dangerous substances
- Fitting guards on dangerous machinery
- Writing and displaying a safety policy
Drawbacks of Health and Safety laws
If businesses meet requirements can lead to an increase in costs as they have to fund the training so all staff know all health safety requirements and this can be time consuming and costly
Benefits of health and safety laws (3)
- The business avoids having to pay large fines (alton towers)
- Motivates employees as they know that if these laws are being met they will be safe whilst working
- Encourages and guides business to meet these needs
What is consumer laws
Are passed by the government to protect consumers by preventing unfair practises taking place
Computer misuse act (1990)
Prevents people looking at information stored on computers that they have no right to read
Data protection act, 1998 (2)
- Controls the use of consumers’ information they must be secure and avoid any theft or loss
- Prevents personal details being sold or given to ther businesses without their permission
Labelling of food regulations, 1970
States that packaged food must contain the ingredients listed on the label
Weight and Measures act, 1985
Staes that weights and measures must be stated on packets or containers and must be correct
Consumer protection from unfair trading regulations, 2008
This act makes it illegal to give consumers incorrect information on packaging and labels out laws aggressive selling tactics
Food safety act, 1990 (2)
- Makes it illegal to sell products that are unsafe or may cause illness to consumers
- Covers farmers as well as restaurants or shops
Food act, 1984 (2)
- States the list of things that can and cannot be added to food products
- Making it illegal to make or sell food in unclean buildings
