Q

Characteristics of ideal gases (7)

A
  • Gases made of molecules in constant random motion, traveling in straight lines
  • Molecules behave as rigid spheres
  • Pressure due to collisions between container walls and molecules
  • All collisions are perfectly elastic (no less of Ek)
  • Temp and avg Ek are proportional
  • No intermolecular forces between molecules
  • Volume occupied is negligible relative to volume of container, as particles are extremely small

Q

Real gases characteristics

A
  • High pressure gets particles closer together, size becoming more important in relation to container size
  • Collisions between particles are not entirely elastic
  • Particles slow down and begin to attract at lower temps, possibly eventually turning from gas to liquid
