2.2: Behaviours of Gasses, Graham's Law Flashcards
1
Q
Define compressibility
A
Space between gas particles allows them to be compressed (ex: tires, spray cans)
2
Q
Define expansion
A
Gas heated up will take up more space, pressure will increase if in a rigid container (ex: pressurized gasses)
3
Q
Define diffusion
A
Gas particles spreading out to take up all available space, moving from high conc areas to low conc areas until conc is uniform across entire space
4
Q
What allows diffusion to happen
A
Translational movement and particle collisions allowing gas to spread out
5
Q
Define effusion
A
Process occurring when a gas escapes from a tiny hole in a container
6
Q
Graham’s law
A
V1 OR n1 t2 √ M2
————– = —- = ——-
V2 OR n2 t1 √ M1
