24.2 Flashcards
Explain chromatic aberrations
When refracting light, short wavelength FS are bent more than long wavelengths
-can’t focus on red and blue at some times
Define refracting
Bends light
What is the focus in a telescope?
Objective lens bends light to single point
-to converge the gathered light on a given point
-can use a camera or an eye piece
How does a radio telescope work?
Focuses the incoming radio waves on an antenna, which absorbs and transmits these waves
What is interferometer? How does it benefit radio telescopes?
Several radio telescopes can be networked together
-helps gather better information the more radio telescopes
Hubble
-1990
-able to distinguish between Pluto and Charon
-2.4m reflector
-10B more light power than the human eye
-black holes/universe expansion
-outside of atmosphere
Chandra
-1999
-studies black holes and x-rays
-observatory
Compton
-studies gamma rays and visible light
-observatory
James Webb
