Difference between WWW and internet
Internet- worldwide communication system using satellites and telecoms links to connect computer hardware in a global network.
Web- information often in HTML format stored on computers connected to the net.
A software system using HTTP and other protocols to access information stored on internet hardware.
IP address
Unique octet of 4 digits each range 0-255 used to address each device connected to the internet.
Used to address packets transferred online
Can be static or permanent.
Web browser
SW used to request and display web pages stored on the internet. Translates HTML of each page into visual content on a screen.

Set of rules used to allow devices connected to the internet to send/ receive files. No size limit. Uses error checking to make sure file correctly received.
ISP
Internet service provider
Provides access to customers to ISPs direct connection to internet’s infrastructure.
Offers many services like different transmission speeds email address web hosting web filtering etc.
C+c role played by cookies in way user typically browses WWW
Both ways to store data locally on a computer related to web browsing.
Both improve users browsing experience.
Cache does not sore personal information just images section of HTML that will make the site load faster on next visit.
Cookies on the other hand store preferences previous activity that are personal to a user in order to improve advertising.
Web page
HTML file usually forms part of a website. Stored on a web server to allow transfer of HTML content to other web browsers.
Difference between portal and search engine
Search engine ONLY contains functions relation to searching for web pages.
Portal will offer this service as well as being an entry point to other connected services like email and selected news stories that are tailored to suit a logged in user.
