2.4 Explain important factors of physical installations. Flashcards
1
Q
What is the installation impact of the correct rack size?
A
- Standard rack size is 19”
- 1U = One rack unit (1.75” in height)
- Depth can vary and is often determined by the equipment.
2
Q
What is IDF with regards to installation impact?
A
- Intermediate Distribution Frame
- This is an extension of the MDF (separate room typically).
- Usually found in medium to larger scale environments.
3
Q
What is MDF with regards to installatoin impact?
A
- Main Distribution Frame
- Central point of the network, usually in the data center
- Termination point for WAN links
- Good testing point for bi-directional traffic
4
Q
What is the installation impact for port-side exhuast/intake?
A
- Need a way to cool the data center.
- Complex system that needs to be integrated in the fire system.
- Designed as HOT/COLD isles.
5
Q
What is a patch pannel and its installation impact?
A
- Users on a floor will have a wired connection back to patch pannel; patch pannel will have RJ45 connector for each wired connection and that will then allow you to connected the wired user to a switch using one connection.
6
Q
What is a fiber distribution panel and its installation impact?
A
- Patch panel at both ends
- Ensure you don’t exceed the bend radius so you don’t break the fiber cable.
- Extra fiber in the patch panel called a “service loop” for future changes.
7
Q
What is a lockable?
A
- This allows an extra layer of security and control over the components in the racks.
8
Q
What is an UPS and its installation impact?
A
- Uninterrupted Power Supply
- Short-term, back-up power for when blackouts, brownouts or power surges occur.
9
Q
What is a PDU and its installation impact?
A
- Power Distribution Unit
- Provide multiple power outlets that often include monitoring and control so you can enable/disable individual outlets.
10
Q
What is power load and its installation impact?
A
11
Q
What is voltage and its installation impact?
A
12
Q
What are some environmental factors that could have an impact on the installation of a network and its equipment?
A
- Humidity: high humidity promotes condensation, low humidity promotes static discharge; 40-60% is the average for a data center.
- Fire Suppression: water isn’t the best fire suppression option for a data center (inert gases/chemical agents).
- Temperature: industry best practices are around 64-81 degrees F.
