what is vascular dementia?
Vascular dementia is a common type of dementia caused by reduced blood flow to the brain.
causes include
- narrowing and blockage of the small blood vessels inside the brain
- a single stroke (where the blood supply to part of the brain is suddenly cut off)
- lots of “mini strokes” that cause tiny but widespread damage to the brain
what is lewy body dementia?
Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a type of progressive dementia because of abnormal microscopic deposits that damage brain cells over time.
what is front- temporal dementia?
Frontotemporal dementia is an uncommon type of dementia that mainly affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, affecting the functions carried out by these regions.
why do people die from dementia?
The actual death of a person with dementia may be caused by secondary condition e.g pneumonia. They are likely to be frail towards the end = ability to cope with infection and other physical problems will be impaired due to the progress of dementia
