Recruitment
The process from identifying that the business needs to employ someone up to the point at which applications have arrived in the business
Employee selection
The process of evaluating candidates for a specific job and selecting an individual for employment based on the needs of the organisation
Job analysis
Incentivise and records the responsibilities and duties to be carried out by whoever is employed to do that specific job
Job specification
A document that outlines specific requirements, qualifications, expertise, characteristics, ect… for the job
Internal recruitment
When a vacancy is filled by someone who is an existing employee at the business
External recruitment
When a vacancy is filled by someone outside the business
Part time employee
1 - 35 hours a week
Full time employee
35+ hours a week
On the job training
Watching a more experienced worker do the job
Off the job
Training done away from the worksite, usually by trained instructors
Introduction training
Introduction given to new employee, explaining business activities, customs, procedures and introduction to workmates
Advantages of off the job training
- broad range of skills taught
- often uses expert training
Disadvantages of off the job training
- costs are high
- wages are paid but worker is doing no work
Advantages of on the job training
- costs less than on the job
- ensures work is being done while training
- training made specifically for the business
Disadvantages of on the job training
- trainer may have bad habits and pass them on to the trainee
- training qualifications may not be recognised outside the business
