2.3 - Electrical Circuits Flashcards
What is resistance?
Resistance is a measure of the opposition to flow of charge in electrical circuits.
What happens when resistance Increases?
Increasing resistance in a circuit causes current to decrease.
What is the SI unit for resistance?
the ohm Ω, The symbol used by the SQA is R
What is the equation between Current, Voltage, and resistance?
V = IR
(Voltage) = (Current) x (Resistance)
Is the current in a series circuit same at all points?
Yes
What is the sum of all components in a series circuit equal to?
The voltage of the supply.
In a parallel circuit, the sum of what is equal to the p.d. Of the supply Voltage?
The sum of voltage in all parallel branches = Supply voltage
The p.d across the series part of a complex circuit is the same as what?
It is equal to the sum of the p.d across the individual components in the part of the circuit.
what is The total current in the parallel part of a circuit?
The sum of the currents in the parallel branches
(To find the current in the parallel branches you must find the sum of all components in the branch)
Is the p.d across each branch of a parallel circuit the same?
Yes
