Religion on the meaning and purpose of life (Aristotle and Aquinas)
Aristotle says we should live by our telos (purpose) and a good life is one that achieves its telos. Aquinas develops that out ultimate telos is union with God which we achieve by fulfilling natural purposes (POWER). Doing this constitutes felicitas which is in our mortal lives but once we die we are united with God and achieve pure and complete happiness (beatitudo).
Reply to Aquinas which the Quote
St Augustine said that due to original sin human nature is overwhelmed with lust and selfishness. This means to follow out nature is to follow the way of sin. “Human heart is evil from childhood” - Genesis 8:20. This means salvation cannot be achieved from our nature, only by the grace of God.

As a result of original sin human beings have a debt to God that cannot possibly be repaid. By Jesus living a sinless life and voluntarily giving his life for the sake of humanity, he discharged the debts and obligations that human beings owe to God. Jesus Christ atones for our sins and presents the possibility of salvation
