Who is responsible for safeguarding?
Everyone
Define safeguarding for adults
Protecting individuals’ rights to live free from abuse and neglect, working in partnership to prevent the risk of abuse or neglect and promoting individuals’ wellbeing
Define safeguarding for children
Protecting children from maltreatment, preventing the impairment of children’s health and development, ensuring they grow up with safe and effective care and taking actions to enable all children to have the best outcomes
Explain DBS
Disclosure and barring service
Work closely with police to help safeguard individuals from abuse and harm
Prevents unsuitable people from working with vulnerable individuals
They decide if it is appropriate for a person to be placed on or removed from the barred list
Give the different types of DBS checks

Standard
Enhanced
Enhanced check with barred lists
Explain the DBS application process
The employer gets the application form for a DBS
The employer gives the applicant the form to complete and return with ID documents
The employer gives the completed from to DBS
DBS sends a certificate to the applicant and the employer asks to see this
The employer can view the status on the certificate online
