2.2 NEWTONS LAWS Flashcards
WHAT IS INERTIA?
Inertia is a resistance to a change in motion. Objects with greater mass have greater inertia, so a greater resultant force will be required to change its motion.
WHAT IS NEWTON’S FIRST LAW OF MOTION?
An object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external resultant force
WHAT IS NEWTON’S SECOND LAW OF MOTION?
f = m x a
The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the resultant force and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.
WHAT IS THE EQUATION FOR WEIGHT?
Weight = Mass x Gravitational field strength
WHAT IS TERMINAL SPEED?
The constant speed that an object reaches when moving through the air. When the drag forces become equal to the driving force or weight, the resultant force is zero and no further acceleration occurs.
WHAT IS NEWTON’S THIRD LAW OF MOTION?
If body A exerts a force on body B then body B will exert an equal and opposite force in body A
