2.2 kinetics Flashcards
Maxwell Boltzmann
Shows the spread of energies of molecules of a gas or liquid at a particular temperature
Activation energy
Minimum energy needed by particles that are colliding for them to react
Emp
Most probable energy, shifts right for higher temperatures and left for lower
Line at 0
Because zero molecules have zero energy, other end never teaches line because no maximum energy for particles
Molecules have a wider range….
At higher temperatures
Rate of reaction
The change in concentration of a substance in a (unit of time)
Concentration and pressure
More particles per unit volume so particles will collide more often and there will be a higher frequency of effective collisions
Temperature
More particles will have the activation energy or greater so there will be more successful collisions
Surface area
Collisions will occur more frequently
Catalysts
Provide an alternative pathway with a lower activation energy this means more particles will have energy greater than the activation energy so there will be a higher frequency of effective collisions
