2.1.7 Applications of Conservation Laws Flashcards
1
Q
Describe quark confinement
A
Its not possible to get a single quark by itself.
If a high energy proton is fired at a quark, the energy used to separate it is converted to matter as an antiquark.
2
Q
Describe what happens in weak interaction of beta-minus decay
A
In beta-minus decay a neutron is changed into a proton by changing a quark’s character from a d quark into an u quark.
3
Q
Describe what happens in weak interaction of beta-plus decay
A
In beta-plus decay a proton is changed into a neutron by changing a quark’s character from a u quark into an d quark.
4
Q
What properties are always conserved and why?
A
Energy Momentum Mass // Charge Baryon Number Lepton Number Strangeness (strong interaction only)
