2.1.2 Eukaryotic Cell Organelles Flashcards
What is the purpose of a chloroplast?
To do the process of photosynthesis. This includes taking carbon dioxide and glucose, and from it creating oxygen and water.
What is the protective layer of a chloroplast? What is it made of?
A chloroplast envelope. It is made of an outer and an inner membrane.
What is special about a thylakoid? What is found in it?
Chlorophyll is found in the thylakoid. Chlorophyll is special as it absorbs light for photosynthesis and therefore is crucial in the chloroplasts purpose.
What do you call a stack of thylakoids?
A granum
What are the small organelles attached to granum, and what are they responsible for?
They are called stalked particles, and are responsible for ATP synthesis.
Why is it important that chloroplasts have starch granules?
They need glucose in order to do the function of photosynthesis.
What is the plasm of chloroplasts called?
Stroma
