2.1.2 Compounds, formulae and equations Flashcards
Atom
-The smallest unit of matter that shows the chemical properties of an element.
Molecule
-The smallest part of a covelent compound that can exist while retaining its chemical identity consisting of two or more atoms covenlently bonded.
Ion
-A positively or negatively charged atom or a covelently bonded group of atoms (polyatomic ion) where the number of electrons is different to the number of protons.
Element
-Made of atoms or molecules. Only one type of atom present.
Mixture
- 2 or more substances not chemically reacted. They don’t have a formula and can be easily separated.
Compound
-Made of ions or molecules, 2 or more different elements chemically bonded.
Stoichiometry
-The ratio of the amount of moles of each substance in a chemical reaction.
Metal+acid
-Salt+hydrogen
Metal carbonate+acid
-Salt+carbon dioxide+water
Acid+alkali
-Salt+water
Metal+salt solution
-Displacement reaction
Salt
-When a proton on an acid is replaced by a positive ion.
