2.1.1 Cells and cell structure Flashcards
What is the cytoplasm?
It is where many of the chemical reactions take place.
What does a nucleus do?
Controls the cells activities.
What does the cell membrane do?
Controls the substances that go in and out of the cell.
What are the mitchondria?
Where energy is released during aerobic respiration.
What happens in the ribosomes?
This is where protein synthesis takes place.
What do plant cells have to strengthen them?
Plant and algal cells also have a cell wall made of
cellulose
What do chloroplasts do?
chloroplasts, which absorb light energy to
make food
What else do plant cells have?
A permanent vacuole filled with cell sap.
What does a bacterial cell consist of?
A bacterial cell consists of cytoplasm and a
membrane surrounded by a cell wall; the
genes are not in a distinct nucleus.
What does a yeast cell consist of?
Yeast is a single-celled organism. Yeast cells
have a nucleus, cytoplasm and a membrane
surrounded by a cell wall.
