Passengers trapped greater than 1 hour AND medical emergency reported

Passengers trapped less than 1 hour AND a medical emergency reported

Passengers trapped less than 1 hour AND no medical emergency reported
When should a BIR be established on an elevator call and what items should it include?
Whenever 3 or more units are assigned to the call and it should include the occupancy type, number of floors, and location of elevator shafts
The first step of investigation on an elevator call should be to make contact with the elevator mechanic and the building’s engineering, maintenance and/or security personnel if they are on scene and ascertain which elevator is stalled, the floor it’s on, and how long passengers have been trapped. If an elevator mechanic is not on scene what should the IC ask for?
An updated ETA of the responding Elevator Mechanic
If you are able to make voice contact with passengers where should they be advised to stand inside the elevator?
Clear of the door to the rear of the car
If in voice contact with trapped passengers they should be asked to push which elevator button?
The “Door Closed” button
If in voice contact with trapped passengers you should confirm with them that the car’s emergency switch is in which position?

On an elevator call, one firefighter with a radio and cell phone should be assigned to go where?
The elevator machine room
If upon arrival on an elevator call no building representative is available what is a quick method of trying to ascertain which elevator is stalled?
In the elevator lobby turn the keyed elevator switch to ”Phase 1”. All normally operating cars should return to the lobby and open up. Whichever one doesn’t should be your stalled car.
When may companies besides the Heavy Rescue remove passengers from a stalled elevator?
Anytime the floor or the elevator is within 3 feet or less of the nearest landing?
What operational procedure differs when attempting to rescue passengers from an elevator with an elevator door key access hole versus one without?
If it has an elevator door key access hole you may simply open the door with a key, then enter and hit the emergency “STOP” switch.
If it does not have a keyhole main electrical power must be secured prior to attempting to pick the door. Once the doors are opened the emergency “STOP” should be triggered.
On an elevator call what scenario would make it acceptable to use forcible entry/ extrication tools to access the car?
It is determined a passenger is having a critical medical emergency
