21: TIC Flashcards
Categories of IR emitters: (3)
Passive (furniture)
Active (people)
Dynamic (electric appliances)
descrieb image intensifiers and infrared detectors.
Image intensifiers: Amplify existing visible light (Camera’s night shot)
Infrared detectors: View IR sources regardless of light conditions
Thermal contrast: (TIC chapter)
Thermal contrast is the difference between 2 or more items when viewed with the TIC.
Bonus - Their image will be relative to the detector’s sensitivity and the variance of the temps of the room.
Thermal inversion: (TIC chapter)
Thermal inversion occurs when an object changes shade even though its temperature has not. Is a result of a change in temp of the environment.
Thermal layering: (TIC chapter)
Occurs when effective vent is not completed.
3 Keys to effective TIC operation:
Orientation
Interpretation
Communication
Limitations of the TIC.
Glass
Steam
Water
How does heat travel? (3)
Convection
Conduction
Radiation
Scanning priorities for the TIC: (4)
Ceiling for temp variation and elevation
Centre of room for exits & openings
Floor for hazards and pts
Behind for anything missed
Three modes of operations on TIC:
High sense (room temp or cooler)
Mid sense (240<65C)
Low sense mode (240C +)
