2.1. *Strongyloides*, *Strongylus* Flashcards
Strongyloides
Pg sits on position to ease the breathing. Can be sign of strogyloidosis (Strongyloides ransomi)
Haemorrhagic pneumonia in pig because of larvae in the lung tissue (Strogyloides ransomi)
Cachexia can be sign of strongyloidosis Strongyloides westeri
Cross-section of nematode in mucosa. Can not be identified by this
Bifurcated tail of L3 of Strogyloides
Large vs small strongylus
Large strongylus have extra intestinal migration.
From the intestines —> pierce intestinal wall —> bloodstream —> cranial mesenteric artery (Strongylus vulgaris) where its buries itself in the artery —> nodule where its gonna moult to L4 and will be dormant for a long time, this module can call thrombosis
Large and small strongylus can’t be differentiated by eggs. L3 can be differentiated (number of gut cells!!)
Difference in numbers of gut cels in different L3 strongylus
big amount of gut cells -> large strobgylus
32 -> Strongylus vulgaris
20 -> Strongylus edentatus
16 -> Strongylus equinus
8 -> small strongylus
Adult Strongylus vulgaris because 2 teeth in buccal capsule !!!
1 - Aneurism created by L3 larvae in cranial mesenteric artery. Strongylus vulgaris
2 - adult Strongylus vulgaris on the intestinal wall (caecum/colon)
Nodules in the wall of cranial mesenteric artery caused by Strongylus vulgaris larvae
Thrombosis caused by Strongylus vulgaris
Subserosa of liver is the predilection site of Strongylus equinus
(also subserosa of colon, abdominal cavity and pancreas)
Adult Strongylus equinus 4 teeth !
Adult Strongylus edentatus No teeth!
