What does motivation means
The will to work
What causes people to act or do something in a positive way
Internal and external factors that stimulates desire and energy to be continually interested and committed to a job
Describe selfactualization
Succeeding to your full potential
Being promoted and given mor responsibility and so feel important
Describe self esteem need
Having status and recognition, achievement, independence
Being given recognition for a job well done
Describe social need
Having friendship, sense of belonging and have work colleague that support you at work
Describe safety and security needs
Protection against danger and poverty, fair treatment and job security
Describe physiological need
Food, rest, recreation, shelter
Wages high enough to meet weekly bill
List the financial reward
Flat rate, time rate, piece rate, commission, performance rate, profit sharing, bonus

Set rate of pay, based on a set number of hours
Easy to calculate
Describe time rate, adv and dis
Worker are paid for the amount of time they spend at work. Time worked over this standard is known as overtime
Adv- simple to calculate, good when productivity is hard to measure, easy to budget
Dis- does little to encourage, worker try to work slow
Describe piece rat, dis and adv
Payment for each item produced that meets a given quality standard
Adv - encourage worker to work faster and produce more good
Dis - workers may rush -> produce lower quality product
Machinery breaks down
Describe commission, adv and dis
Percentage of a sales a sale person has made
Adv - incentive to sell more, payroll cost is related to the value of business achieved rather than just the amount produced
Dis- sales person cut corner to make sales - not explain the product in details -> customers are misled and mis sold
