{21} Limiting Reactant Flashcards
Define:
Theoretical Yield?
The greatest possible amount of product that can be produced in a chemical reaction based on the amount of limiting reactant.
Define:
Actual Yield?
The amount of product actually produced by a chemical reaction.
Define:
Limiting Reactant?
The reactant that has the** smallest stoichiometric amount** in a reactant mixture and consequently limits the amount of product in a chemical reaction
Define:
Percent Yield?
The percentage of the theoretical yield that was actually produced.
Equation:
% yield = actual yield / theoretical yield x 100
Define:
Excess Reactant?
The reactant that is not completely consumed; some of it remains in the reaction mixture after the reaction is complete.
