Leadership vs. Management
* Leadership is about influencing people, while mangement focuses on maintaining systems and processes
* Best way to test whether a person is a leader vs. manager is to ask them to create positive change.. managers can maintain direction, but often they can’t change it

  • Misconception= anyone who is in front of the crowd is a leader
  • To be a leader, a person not only has to be out in front, but have people following his lead
  • Being a trendsetter is not the same as being a leader

  • The greatest misunderstanding about leadership is that people think it is based on position, but it’s not
  • It’s not the position that makes the leader; it’s the leader that makes the position
  • Example= CEO Saatchi was fired, but many other execs and accounts left the firm with him
