2.1 Exchange with the Environment Flashcards
the spreading of something more widely.
Diffusion
he process of gradual or unconscious assimilation of ideas, knowledge, etc.
Osmosis
allowing certain substances to pass through it but not others, especially allowing the passage of a solvent but not of certain solutes.
Semiperimeable
small particles, such as sugar, cross the cell membrane trough passageways
Channels
is a movement of ions and other atomic or molecular substances across cell membranes without need of energy input.
Passivetransport
the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy.
Activetransport
the taking in of matter by a living cell by origination of its membrane to form a vacuole.
Endocytosis
a fluid- or air-filled cavity or sac, in particular.
Vesicles
a process by which the contents of a cell vacuole are released to the exterior through fusion of the vacuole membrane with the cell membrane.
Exocytosis
