What were the causes of the red scare?
The Russian revolution and strikes in 1919 led to mass arrests of suspected Communists and the deportation of recent immigrants (palmer raids)
Why do some believe Sacco and Vanzetti were innocent?
There was little evidence against them, they were targeted mainly for being Italian anarchists, judge was only biased, America needed someone to blame and they fit the ideological description
What was the Johnson-Reid Act of 1924?
It fixed a quota of 150,000 immigrants a year,
Asian immigration was halted completely
Who were the two most famous victims of the Red Scare and what did they allegedly do?
Sacco and Vanzetti, they allegedly were responsible for capital crimes committed while one of them was in a different state

What were the Jim Crow laws?
Allowed separate facilities for blacks, this included schools, hospitals and water fountains
What problems did black Americans face at the time?
Worst schools, threat of KKK, higher unemployment rates, discrimination
Why did KKK membership decline by 1929?
A Klan leader was convicted of raping and murdering a women on a train amongst other scandals
Why did immigration become an increasing concern for Americans by 1920?
Following WWI it was seen as place of prosperity and so was attractive to immigrants,
Hatred of Germans following WWI meant these immigrants weren’t welcomed nicely,
Fear of communism following Russian revolution in 1917
