Teacher and student receive and acknowledge a problem.

Could it be…? questions to help student recognize and understand possible cause of problem
Step 4 & 5 of social conferences
- Generate alternatives
- two or three strategies that might make a difference - Establish agreement to try
- Agreement to try strategies in writing or fistbump. A time will be set to evaluate progress
General rules of social conferences
Kind, businesslike manner
Speak to student in private
Be prepared to propose some options, accept options from student
Be prepared to end conference if student becomes defensive
Keep as short as possible
Focus on solving immediate problems
Why do we ask students what they notice?
To encourage them to examine their own behaviour
Name the behaviour without finding fault, blaming, or judging.
