Can see whole dentition including bony structures like condyle and coronoid process
Less dose than CBCT
Good pt tolerance
Generally lose dose do radiation
Can be used for ortho processed and prognosis of 6;s and position of 8’s
Easier to explain to pts
Can see accidental findings like cyts and tumours
Disadvantages of OPT
2D
Hard to see caries
Expensive
Pt needs to be still
Can lack finer detail
Technique sensitive
Positioning of some teeth like canines may require images like periapical
Syndromes associated with hypodontia
Ectodermal dysplasia
So look at nails hair and dry skin
Take careful history
If unsure refer / contact GP
Clinical governance of pts who are irregular attenders?
-why, any issues
-consider safeguarding and child protection
-speak to safeguarding lead
-if suspect abuse look at triangle of danger and bruising of soft tissues
-social services
-gdc standard 8.5 -raise concerns
-take correct actions
-assess child’s behaviour with mum and other siblings
