20.2 Ideal Gas Laws Flashcards
How do particles behave in a gas?
the particles move at random with varying speed, when they collide they bounce of each other or the surface they hit without loosing speed
What causes pressure in a gas?
pressure is caused by the particles colliding with the surface of the container as each collision exerts a small force on the container
more particles = more collisions = more force = more
pressure
What is BROWNIAN MOTION?
this is the random motion that gases move in
What is the AVOGARDO CONSTANT?
this is the number of atoms found in 12g of the 12,6C isotope
Symbol - Na
Value is 6.02x10^23 mol^-1
Define a MOLE
one MOLE of substance is defined as the quantity of substance that contains Na particles
the unit of molarity is mol
What is MOLAR MASS?
the mass of 1mol of the substance
units are kgmol^-1
What is the IDEAL GAS EQUATION?
pV = nRT
PressureVolume = number of molesMolar Gas*Temp. (K)
