How would you calculate the standard deviation?
- work out the difference between each individual score - compared to the mean
- square this difference
- find the sum of all differences squared
- divide the sum of the differences squared by the total number of participants
- find the square root
What information would the standard deviation provide?
Informs us of the dispersion across scores around the average
Hypothesis testing
Predictions are made about the likely outcome of research to be conducted, using the null and alternative hypothesis
Manipulation of variables
Refers to how the independent variable is operationalised to assess the effects on the DV.
