The Payton Rule
Police cannot make a warrantless non-consensual entry into a suspect’s home to make an arrest unless exigent circumstances exist.
The Steagald Rule
An arrest warrant does permit entry into a suspects home but it does not permit entry into a third person’s home to search for a suspect.
