Q

Bonded Landing Recovery

On short final in your -800, sudden loss of airspeed occurs due to a -10 Kt gust. You add some thrust but the aircraft experiences a high, and hard bounce. At this point, what should you do?

A

Initiate a go-around. Apply go-around thrust and use normal go-around procedures.

Q

Bounce Landing Recovery

If you elect to try and “save” a bounce landing, what could occur?

A

A tail strike could occur. If hight-than-idle power is maintained through initial touchdown, automatic speed brake deployment may be disabled even with speed brakes are armed. During the resultant bounce, if thrust levers are retarded to idle, automatic speed brake deployment can occur. This will result in a loss of lift and nose-up pitching moment that can result in a tail strike or hard landing. Almost all tail strikes that occur during landing result in significant damage to the aircraft.
