2011 Flashcards
Factors considered as part of legal feasibility (1)
Issues associated with data protection act, computer misuse act, copyright design & patents act
Factors considered as part of economic feasibility (1)
Estimated cost of developing new system, list of benefits that will be gained from the new system, cost-benefit analysis carried out
Information gathering techniques
Questionnaires, interviews, observation, sample documents
Observation
Current system observed. Enables analyst to see system in operation. Any details that we’re overlooked by users of system would be apparent to analyst.
Sample documents
Analyst can sample documents to see types of data & data items that need to be stored within the system
Use of system specification during testing (2)
System spec contains details of inputs, outputs, processes. Outline everything system should do. During testing, used as a checklist to ensure nothing has been missed out and system is correct /fit for purpose
Purpose of a user guide (2)
Provides instructions on how to use each feature of the system. It is written in straightforward vocabulary and has lots of screen shots to show screen layouts
Types of conversion
Parallel, Direct, Pilot, Phased
Why convert paper-based system using parallel conversion
Paper-based is low cost and parallel conversion would ensure that there is a backup system if faults are discovered in the new system
Why convert paper-based system using direct conversion
Paper-based system is likely to be time consuming & prone to human error so many benefits can be gained by switching straight to new system as soon as it’s available
Why convert paper-based system using pilot conversion
New system is setup in one department. Feedback from those users is taken into account before the system is installed throughout the company
Aspects of an info system that will affect its ease of use
Use made of user-friendly forms & menus. Consistent layout of forms and screens. Well written user guide. Availability of online help & online tutorial facilities
