2007 financial crash- Us housing market collapses and the US begin calling the loans. The Uk banks restricted their own lending, causing businesses to collapse, triggering a recession. Browns govt either nationalised or guarantee these banks to prevent their collapse. Massive taxpayers’ bailout £137bn.
Expenses scandal- Daily Telegraph are leaked in full details from 2004-2008. Lack of scrutiny, generosity and loopholes MPs exploited to maximise their expenses.
What was David cameron forced to do?
Move left, embracing labour policies such as minimum wage and devolution, inspired by New Labour.
