20 Kw Flashcards
Chlorosis
Lack or chloro Reduces plants ability to make food by photo. Leaves look pale or yellow because cells not making normal amount of chlorophyll
Genotype
Genetic make up of an organism in respect of that gene
Phenotype
The observable characteristics of a an organism
Homozygous
Two identical alleles for a characteristic
Heterozygous
Two diff alleles for the same characteristics
Dominant Allele
The version of the gene that will always be expressed if present
Recessive allele
The version of the gene that will be expressed if two copies of the alleles are present
Codominance
When two alleles of equal dominance occur for a gene. Both are expressed
Sexlinked genes
Characteristic determined by genes carried on the sex chromosome
Autosomal linkage
Linkage that occurs on the other 22 pairs. Inherited as one unit. No independent assessment during meiosis unless alleles separated by chiasmara
Epistasis
Interaction of genes at different loci.
Dominant episasis
Dominant allele results in the gene having an effect on another gene
Episatic
A gene that affects the expression of another grne
Hypostatic
A gene that is affected by other gene
Gene pool
Sum of all in the genes in a pool of a population in a given time
